Five alumni of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Hong Kong have earned international honours , taking home five Communication Design prizes at the 2017 Red Dot Awards.
The five alumni are Keeley Gribb, Jamie Kao, Carmen Rodriguez Lo and Shann Larsson. Shann Larsson was recognised in both Illustrations and Publishing & Print Media categories. The competition has highlighted SCAD’s diverse campus profile with recognition of projects from the Hong Kong, Savannah and Atlanta campuses.
An astounding total of 56 Red Dot Awards have been awarded to 53 SCAD students and alumni . One of them was given to Whitney Renea Stephenson (B.F.A., film and television, 2016), who received the coveted “Best of the Best” award for her work entitled “Dreamkeeper.”
“I am incredibly proud of the magnificent showing that SCAD students and alumni had in this year’s Red Dot Awards. With a record-setting number of 56 winning projects, we have shown once again that SCAD’s students are truly the best,” said SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace.
“Through our rigorous and industry-leading programmes, SCAD is preparing our students to be leaders in creative professions. The Red Dot Awards exemplifies that our global approach results in talent ready for the international stage.”
German authority Design Zentrum orchestrates the annual Red Dot Awards. For the Communication Design competition, an international jury of 24 judges from 11 countries worked to select pieces with the most convincing design quality and creativity.
One of the most ambitious worldwide competitions in design, the Red Dot Awards received submissions from 50 countries. This year’s Communication Design program alone drew a total of 8,051 submissions across 18 categories. There were a total of 749 Red Dot Awards, with only 67 projects receiving the “Best of the Best” designation.
