Drama helps CHECSS students with their English skills

Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School's Secondary Two and Three students watched an English drama, Around the World in 80 Days, at Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre on March 19. The students were very excited and had a lot to talk about on their way to the theatre. However, when the performance started, there was complete silence - they were fully concentrating on what was happening on the stage.

The students had problems with the actors' accents, so the Chinese subtitles were very useful.

The show, sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, hopes to raise local students' interest in literature and appreciation of the arts. It has been watched by more than 27,700 secondary students and teachers.

Yu Cheuk-chun, 14, a student from our school, said it was a great experience. "It's good to enjoy ourselves as well as learn outside the campus," he added.

Our students believe that such outings can help boost their English skills, and are looking forward to similar activities next year.
