My Biological Mindreader

My Biological Mindreader

Last month we invited you to be creative and take part in our competition for tickets for Ed Sheeran's concert in March, with either a poem or an image. This is one of the best poems we received

My Biological Mindreader

The minds bind as DNA coils into a polypeptide chain.
The genetics grouped harmoniously, forming the telepathy,
Astatine, thymine, guanine and cytosine,
Between she and me.

Two exam papers; two writings; two distinct pieces of work;
Yet, two miraculously equal sentences,
Coincidence, complementary, correspondency.
We both exclaimed in unison,
Without processing nor programming.
The tides of the mind roared, merely in one single voice,
One single connection.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
A sentence being said for an infinite.
In turn, our heads nodded at the identical time,
At the identical pace.
Acknowledging on the identical message.
An explanation wouldn’t be necessary,
For we have telepathy, for we are connected soulmates
As one.

The wires connect us for eternity,
No matter the distance, no matter the time constraints.
“You are using the loo? Aren’t you?”
There is no denying on constant flushes of embarassment,
There is no denying on the continuing sense of her haunting me.
Though in turn it provides security,
Friendship, affiliance.

It isn’t a scientific theory or artistic act of any sort.
It is a pure nexus,
As though we were word collocations,
As though it is an unbreakable oath or enchantment.
And even though “I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time.”
“If things go wrong we can knock it down.
My three words have two meanings but there's one thing on my mind
It's all for you.”
