Wrong rights

Hongkongers are very eager for universal suffrage and "true" freedom of speech. But given our attitude towards those with unpopular opinions, it seems we're not ready for it.

Recently Leung Chai-yan, daughter of Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, wrote on Facebook that the attack on former Ming Pao editor Kevin Lau has nothing to do with press freedom. She received a series of threats and angry anti-mainland slogans.

I find it extremely disappointing that there are people in Hong Kong who choose to sacrifice the city's international reputation by expressing their disapproval against mainland visitors. We are lucky to be part of a society where there is freedom of speech. Unfortunately, we abuse these rights with our intolerance.
