Very good reasons why you should take a hike

Hiking can be meaningful. But the meaning is up to you to find.

Many people don’t see the point of hiking. They might ask what is to be gained from going hiking. Hikers walk for many miles along the road, seemingly without a purpose, and then they walk back. They just end up with sore feet. Even if your walk has a purpose, why not take the bus? It is more comfortable and quicker. Hiking seems like a waste of time.

But hiking is not just about reaching a destination. There is pleasure in the walk itself. Hiking is more about the experience than getting from A to B.

Students can learn a lot from hiking. They can spend a day without mobile phones. It is a very meaningful way of doing exercise. Hiking is also good for old people, as it’s a great way to stay active and explore the outdoors.

Everything has advantages and disadvantages. Of course hiking isn’t the fastest way to get around, and it can be dangerous at times, but as long as we are careful, it’s a very worthwhile activity.

Thank you for your letter, Crystal. Now that the temperature has dropped, you can be sure that the hiking trails will be busy. Many tourists are often surprised to learn that there is so much “nature” in Hong Kong, but we know that about 75 per cent is countryside.

There are many reasons to hike in a city. The main one, perhaps, is to get away from the hustle and bustle. Being in the “great outdoors”, away from the noise and pollution, is a great way to refresh your mind and de-stress.

Another great reason is for physical health. Whether you’re a member of every school sports team, or hate to move any more than absolutely necessary, hiking stretches your legs, gives you a chance to really swing your arms, and go exactly at the pace you want, while giving your heart a reason to pump blood just a little faster.

A walk in a country park is also a great way to bond with people, whether it’s your family, BFFs, or a date. Often you won’t get very good phone reception, so you can focus on the people you’re with, find out new things about them, solve problems, share secrets, and take some really cool photos.

Which leads me to the fourth reason hiking rocks: these trails really go through some stunning countryside. If you’re into the visual arts, you can’t help but be inspired, and even if you’re not, just seeing those views might make you feel a little more creative than usual.
