This Mother's Day, give your mum the gift of poetry to show her your love.

She's not my real mother and doesn't live here in Hong Kong but the unconditional love and care she gives me everyday helps me get through my worst and I'm so grateful.

When I lost my mother,
I never thought that I would find another,
I slogged through four years of regret and sadness,
Because my mother was different,
I only saw her at her worst, like she was all holed up in a tent,
And I just gave up trying to make her see sense,
She always called me ugly and that my head was damaged by my caretakers, full of nonsense,
But Mama Eli says that I'm adorable and that I'll always be her beloved daughter,
I never thought that someone would love and care for me like her,
She's special in so many different ways,
She's taught me that there are good days and that I'm loved and that I'm like a pair of bright, warm sun rays,
She's held me through my worst moments and lovingly told me that she was proud to have me as her kid,
She's shown me that there's nothing wrong with being different and that everything will be okay.
Things get tough sometimes but I remind myself that I have the best mama in the world and that I love her with all my heart.
