Spoil Your Folks! Yuen Suk Fan's entry for the Young Post buffet dinner competition
We asked our readers to write about what their perfect date with their parents or guardians would look like for their chance to win a buffet dinner at a five-star-hotel. Here is one of the entries, which has not been edited
A perfect date with my parents would be one that can introduce my world to them, a day for us to get to know one another.
It will begin with the aroma of strawberries in a remote farm in Yuen Long at 8ish. My parents will transmit their knowledge as former farmers to me, and we will compete to find the best strawberries for one another. These gifts from nature will then fill our stomachs, leaving satisfying smiles on our face.
Feeling fulfilled, we will visit Ping Shan Heritage Trail, a familiar place of mine but a mystery to my parents. They will follow my steps to where the treasure of history, geography and architecture can be found, forgetting, at least temporary, our phones and sorrow. Nothing can distract us from our family time.
We will then hike in Kai Shan to enjoy the sunset, where we can also see Nam Sang Wai and our home. Although the sunset won’t last forever, but the day and our memories will. We will then, complete the day with a hearty feast in a five-star hotel.
