Towering skyscrapers, bustling night markets, a world-class dining scene, and majestic city parks make Hong Kong a feast for the senses. With the majority of people spending hours glued to their screens every day, it can be hard to step back and appreciate everything Asia’s world city boasts. I would make the most out of my date with my parents by taking them to places where being disconnected from Wi-Fi can turn out to be a blessing rather than a curse.

First, we’d eat a quick local-style breakfast at a cha chaan teng, then take the MTR to Tung Chung and a bus to Tai O. We’d marvel at the colourful stilt houses, sample some traditional dried fish and shrimp paste, and take a boat ride out to catch a glimpse of the rare Chinese white dolphins.

At noon, we would make our way to Tsim Sha Tsui for lunch: dim sum! The plethora of dishes ranging from shrimp dumplings to turnip cake would keep our stomachs satisfied for the rest of the afternoon. We’d go for a stroll along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, pose with celebrity statues on the Avenue of Stars, and then, of course, take the historic Star Ferry to Central. Gallery hopping at SoHo would be followed by a quick detour to Graham Street Market. In the evening, we’d soak in incredible views of Hong Kong from the Peak Tram and enjoy a scrumptious dinner at Victoria Peak before settling down to watch the amazing Symphony of Lights show. What a wonderful day this would be!
