A campus makeover
The first thing I’d do as principal is renovate my school. As we are celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, I think it is time for a new look.
Henry Chow Ka-hang, 13, King Ling College
An improvement in the facilities
I’d install a tampon and pad dispenser in all of the girls’ bathrooms. Right now, there are only very few toilets where girls can go if they unexpectedly get their period. As a result, girls run a higher risk of staining their uniform, which can be very embarrassing – I know because this recently happened to me. If there are any actual principals or school board members reading this, I ask you to consider my idea.
Vya Pardal, 14, Canadian International School
The first thing I’d do is allow students to use their phones in class. These days, phones can be very useful, we can even use them to view online textbooks and worksheets. It would be both eco-friendly and fun.
Megan Kwok, 13, German Swiss International School
School of party
I’d ban all homework and classes for that day, I’d let students party in the auditorium instead and order pizza, popcorn and cupcakes for them to eat.
Yoonjung Choi, 14, Hong Kong International School
Extra Christmas spirit
I’d make our winter holidays longer! Christmas is a time for children to spend with their family. To make up for the extra days off, I’d make the Easter holidays one week shorter.
Shloka Vishweshwar, 12, German Swiss International School
Time better spent
The first thing I’d do is take away our advisory time and replace it with a longer break or lunch time, because we don’t do anything very practical in advisory.
Kristy Falkiner, 11, Renaissance College Hong Kong
Freedom of choice
If I were the principal of my school, the first thing I’d do is create a new system where students can choose which classes to take. I’d give them a huge list of subjects and let students pick three of them to study.
Bobbi Lee, 12, South Island School
Electronic stress relief
I’d let students game on their phones during lunch. I want them to be able to relax between their classes. It’s really stressful to be working for many hours straight!
Dennis Chow, 14, King George V School
Get exams over with
I’d shorten the exam period. Exams last about a month, which is a nightmare for most students. Shortening it to two weeks would be much better and would reduce students’ stress levels.
Jasmine Cho Li, 14, Cheung Chuk Shan College
To encourage reading
The first thing I’d do if became the principal of my school is make students do more book reports instead of doing textbook exercises so the students will read more books.
