If you had to go to Mars with only bring one thing, what would it be?

Man’s best friend

I would like to take my pet dog, Swansea. Dogs are humans’ best friends. They support us and keep us company. With my dog, I’d have the courage to face any challenges. I would also like Swansea to explore Mars with my family and me. We could play with each other every day and never be apart.

Smartphones, the universal tool

I would take a smartphone with me to Mars because it could be very useful. For example, I could use it to send messages to my friends and family, and we could also use a translation app to help us communicate with any Martians that we might meet there.

I would bring my iPad so I could keep designing fan art, original characters, and make fan-made games.

Space fish

I would take my pet fish with me. She is called Blue Diamond. I couldn’t leave her alone on Earth as she’s my best friend. If I brought her with me, I would be able to feed her and she’d be happy. I promised to be a responsible pet owner when my grandpa gave her to me.

Music to all worlds

I would take my iPod to Mars. I really like music and can’t live without it for more than a day. Music helps me relax in difficult situations, and it would be just what I need to survive in new surroundings with no resources. Even though it’s not the smartest thing to take to space, for me, my iPod is the most important thing to bring.

May the force be with me

If I had to go to Mars and only take one thing, I’d like to take a lightsaber. There might be aliens living on the planet. They could be really friendly, but I think it would be good to have something to defend myself and my friends and family with, just in case.

Reading material

I would like to take a case of books with me as I would surely get bored if I was on Mars. I think books are great and they’d be the best for entertainment and passing the time if I have nothing to do.

Issac Ching Kai-yin, 13, Tam Pak Yu College

The martian farmer

I would take seeds. Plants are very important to humans. We need plants and trees for oxygen, which we would need a lot of in Mars. And if we could bring bees along too, then we could make honey. I think the sight of green things alone would make people happier, too. And happiness is the most important thing in life.
