ROYP: From Muhammad Ali to George S. Patton Jr, here’s what inspires our readers

Each week, we’ll be asking some Young Post readers to share a little bit about themselves and a quote that gets them through life

Hi guys! Growing up in London and relocating to Hong Kong, I realise the importance of appreciating cultural diversity in our world at a young age.

Most inspiring quote:

“The man who has no imagination has no wings.” Muhammad Ali

If you don’t dare to try new things and take risks in life, you’re not going to fly. It has always been important for me to imagine doing greater things, to keep learning and testing the sometimes dangerous waters. Through this mentality, I have been able to grow my wings and I know later in life I will fly.

Hello there! As a student who is about to enter his second year of GCSEs, I have a lot of pressure from my parents to do well. It can be hard for a student in a good school. There is a lot of competition to see who does better in tests and exams, especially here in Hong Kong. Despite having constantly high grades, I feel like I’m going to cave from the pressure.

Most inspiring quote:

“Pressure makes diamonds” George S. Patton Jr

Despite this, I try to stay focused on my goals. I consider the pressure a challenge; something I have to beat. Instead of letting the pressure get to my head, I use it to make myself better, to improve upon my existing skills and knowledge.

ROYP: From Eminem to anime, here are tidbits of wisdom from our readers on getting through life

Hello! I’ve just finished seven years of secondary education, which was mostly fun, apart from the bit which involved actually learning things.

Most inspiring quote:

“Frosties are cornflakes for people who can’t face reality.” Mark Corrigan (From Peep Show)

Now school is finished I am free to do whatever I want! That mostly means sleeping until three in the afternoon and using the internet all day. But when I do go out, I like to travel around Hong Kong and pretend to be a tourist.

Hi, I’m someone who has a pretty unique set of hobbies, ranging from ice skating to practising the dragon dance to video games, reading, writing, and more! I always want to evolve by testing and limiting myself to become someone that I can be proud of.

Most inspiring quote:

“I have finally concluded, maybe that’s what life is about: there’s a lot of despair, but also the odd moment of beauty, where time is no longer the same. It’s as if those strains of music created a sort of interlude in time, something suspended, an elsewhere that had come to us, an always within never. Yes, that’s it, an always within never.” ― Muriel Barbery, The Elegance of the Hedgehog

Life has meaning for many different people, and for me, life is about finding small, perfect moments of beauty within the world. These moments, even in simple and ordinary places, give me hope, strength, and the desire to keep living.
