In the latest optical illusion taking the internet by storm, netizens are arguing whether they are staring at a picture of a barren beach at nighttime, or a broken car door.

Car gate is doing the rounds on Twitter, and users are seriously confused.

“It’s like Laurel and Yanny all over again…” says Twitter user patrickpatchbyr

Science explains why we sometimes perceive seemingly simple things very differently

The photo of the broken car door was first posted by Twitter user nayem on July 3.

“if you can see a beach, ocean sky, rocks and stars then you are an artist,” the post said. “But its not a painting its [the] lower part of the car gate which needs to be repaired.”

It has since received more than 4,000 likes and nearly 2,000 retweets.

The Yanny/Laurel debate is the #Dressgate of 2018 - and Twitter is still exploding

After the confusing image went viral, Nayem provided more details for those who were having trouble seeing the car.

“Focus on [the] dark side you will see [the] car gate,” he wrote. “It’s a car door, the seal panel under it is damaged, the bend in the door gives [the] illusion of beach, the seal panel is damaged and scratched which gives [the] illusion of water on the edge of [the] beach.”

Twitter users are still not convinced. “I can’t really see the reality. It’s like those hologram pictures from the 90s,” says a user, hedgehogogg

This controversial photo is sure to spawn many memes in the next few days. In the meantime, let us know what you see in the comments below!
