Two men who threw eggs at Scholarism leader Joshua Wong Chi-fung were each given a HK$3,000 fine each at Kowloon City Court yesterday.
Li Wong, 27, and Cheung Ka-shing, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of common assault, saying in mitigation that the activities Wong organised during the 79-day Occupy protests last year affected transport businesses. Both were transport workers at the time and the assault happened outside the very same law courts, on November 27.
Passing sentence, Magistrate Dr Eric Cheung Kwan-ming said: "Launching an attack outside a court building is an aggravating factor, but heavy fines will be enough to reflect the seriousness of the offences."
The magistrate fined Li an extra HK$1,500 for breaching a good behaviour bond that was in effect at the time he committed the latest offence on November 27.
Joshua was attacked when he left the court where he was having his own hearing over an Occupy-related charge.
