Hong Kong sees coldest day of 2020, but temperatures expected to rise
The Observatory may take down the Cold Weather Warning that has been in effect since Saturday
Monday was the coldest day of the year so far, with nearly freezing temperatures of 0.5 degrees Celsius recorded at Tai Mo Shan and general temperatures plunging to 10.3 degrees, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
But the weather is expected to warm up over the next few days, with no further rain predicted for this week.
Following the weekend’s cold snap, temperatures may hit 20 degrees on Friday. This may force the Observatory to take down the Cold Weather Warning which has been in effect since Saturday afternoon.
Cloud cover, with periods of sunny weather in between, is expected. Humidity is also likely to increase, with possible rain and mist next Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The northeast monsoon will continue to bring cold and dry weather to southern China tomorrow,” the weather bureau said. “Temperatures will rise over the region gradually.”
