Wuhan virus: Carrie Lam declares highest state of emergency response, closes schools until February 17

She also announced health declaration requirements would be extended to all entry points into Hong Kong

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Yuet-ngor has declared the highest state of emergency in regards to the Wuhan coronavirus and cancelled kindergarten, primary and secondary schools until Feburary 17.

As of Friday, five confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection had been identified in Hong Kong. All patients had been to Wuhan, the epicentre in mainland China.

The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, scheduled for February 9, will also be cancelled, with about 70,000 participants affected.
