How are HKDSE exams marked? HKEAA to open its doors for behind-the-scenes look
The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority will hold info sessions about how they grade all the papers each year
The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority will open its doors to the public in January.The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) will hold an open day on January 11, allowing the public to experience what it’s like to mark the annual public examination papers.
The open day will take place at HKEAA Tsuen Wan Assessment Centre, near Tai Wo Hau MTR Station.
There will be two sessions, one starting at 10am and the other at 1.30pm. Each session includes a seminar on the marking and grading of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), a trial of on-screen marking, a demonstration of script scanning, an explanation of public exam support systems that assist the markers, and an illustration of the oral recording system. The programmes will end at 12.30pm and 4pm, respectively.

The idea is to allow visitors to gain first-hand information about how the public examinations work.
“Security and integrity of public examinations are the prime concerns of the HKEAA. Stringent measures are being put in place to ensure confidentiality in all stages, from live examinations and scripts processing to marking and grading,” the HKEAA said.
The following week, on January 18, there will be several HKEAA seminars on core HKDSE subjects. They will take place at the Education Bureau’s Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre.
There will be four seminars throughout the day on the four core subjects: Chinese Language, Liberal Studies, Mathematics and English Language, each lasting 90 minutes. All sessions will be conducted in Cantonese, except the seminar on English Language.
“These information seminars are suitable for senior secondary students. Assessment development managers will introduce the assessment requirements of the core subjects and useful information about taking the examinations,” said the HKEAA.
