Beatrice Chu Shun-nga, a third-term district councillor of the Hanford constituency in Tuen Mun, has announced on Facebook that she is leaving the Democratic Party.
According to a post on her Facebook page on the evening of January 2, Chu sent a letter of notification to party chairman Wu Chi-wai, to inform him of her intention to resign. In the letter, she said she was unable to cooperate effectively with other members of the party due to a difference in work styles.
A member of the party since 1997, Chu wrote she “hopes we will go on our own paths and fight for democracy in our own ways.” She also pledged to continue to hand over a portion of the district council government subsidy to the party.
Young Post reached out to the Democratic Party for comment, but did not receive a reply.
