After Jupas applicants locked in their final programme choices last Saturday, eight local universities announced their most applied for bachelor degree programmes. Six of those universities also named their “most wanted” programmes, with Baptist University’s (HKBU) Animation and Media Arts Concentration being the most competitive.

Based on the final round of programme choice submission, the universities, which are funded by the University Grants Committee, revealed the programmes that have the three highest numbers of applicants listing it as their top three choices.

The most popular programmes include Chinese University’s engineering programme and science programme, which have 2,232 and 1,901 applicants respectively, followed by the University of Hong Kong’s Bachelor of Arts, with 1,643 candidates.

With the exception of HKU and City University, the institutions also compared the number of applicants to the vacancies in each programme to show which degrees are the “most wanted”.

HKBU’s Bachelor of Communication (Film Major – Animation and Media Arts Concentration) saw the most intense competition, with almost 50 candidates vying for one spot, followed by Education University’s Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Chinese History), which received 349 applications in Band A but only has 10 places to offer.

The third most competitive programme is also at HKBU, with almost 34 applicants fighting for one place in the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management.

The main round Jupas offer will be announced online on August 5. If applicants choose to accept their offer, they must pay an acceptance fee of HK$5,000 before 5pm on August 6.
