A 19-year-old secondary school student collapsed and died on Monday while exercising at a sports ground in Tsuen Wan.

The student at Lui Ming Choi Lutheran College, with the surname Xiao, was attending a physical education class at Shing Mun Valley Sports Ground with classmates at around 10am.

In November 2018, a 12-year-old Queen’s College student died after collapsing during PE class

A police spokesman said a 42-year-old sports ground staff member, named Cheung, alerted emergency crews after Xiao collapsed.

“He was unconscious when the first responders arrived. He was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital in the same district but was certified dead upon arrival,” the spokesman said.

An initial investigation showed no reason for suspicion, according to police. The spokesman said an autopsy report would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
