A 17-year-old boy attending a prestigious international school in Hong Kong has been charged with the indecent assault of a classmate that allegedly took place during a trip to Suzhou in eastern China.
The boy, who lives in South Bay on Hong Kong Island, made his first court appearance on Tuesday to face two counts.
His name has been withheld to prevent any identification of the complainant.
Prosecutors said the alleged assaults took place on two occasions – January 31 and February 2 last year, at the Double Tree by Hilton hotel in Suzhou.
Eastern Court heard his alleged victim, a girl identified only as X in court, was no longer attending their school.
Indecent assault carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment in Hong Kong.
The boy was not required to enter a plea on Tuesday before Principal Magistrate Peter Law Tak-chuen.
The case was adjourned to April 23 at the defence lawyer’s request for more time to process documents, and the boy was released on bail with the condition he not discuss the case with prosecution witnesses.
