Where to go in HK for Mid-autumn moon-gazing following Typhoon Mangkhut damage
Many of the traditional venues, including parks and beaches, are still closed due to the destruction of last week's powerful storm
With widespread damage from Typhoon Mangkhut affecting many of Hong Kong’s country parks and all of our public beaches, prime places to go moon gazing are in short supply. And that is not including the Hong Kong Observatory’s forecast of rain and clouds for the three days of Mid-autumn.
But if you are a die-hard moon-watcher, there are still some places to go to eat mooncakes and look at the real thing.
The following venues have had their opening hours extended by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
- Hong Kong Velodrome Park (Hang Hau or Tseung Kwan O MTR Station )
- Jordan Valley Park (Choi Hung Station)
- Hong Kong Park (Admiralty Station)
- Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (Admiralty or Central Station)
- Aldrich Bay Park (Shau Kei Wan Station)
- Ngau Chi Wan Park (Buses from Diamond Hill Railway Station, Hung Hom and Choi Hung)
- Tsing Yi Park (Tsing Yi Station)
- Tsing Yi Northeast Park (Tsing Yi Station and various buses and minibuses)
- North District Park (Sheung Shui Station)
- Victoria Park (Tin Hau or Causeway Bay Station)

There is still some storm debris and fallen trees left in some of the parks, so have fun, stay safe, and do obey the signs and avoid the cordoned-off areas.
