Chin Yu-ying is 17[UPDATE: 1.20PM, November 21, 2017]
A body was found in Victoria Harbour near Wan Hoi Street in Whampoa yesterday, and Hong Kong Police confirmed today that the body is that of 17-year-old Chin Yu-ying who's been missing since Sunday.
She was found dressed in a grey and black striped shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers, and with no identification on her. The deceased’s identity was confirmed by her family.
She was confirmed dead when found. No suicide note was found and initial investigations found nothing suspicious, say the police. An autopsy will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
South China Morning Post learned that Yu-ying had not shown any suicidal tendencies or had any arguments with her parents before her disappearance.
She lived with her parents in a luxury apartment on Babington Path in the Mid-Levels. Her mother is believed to be a government employee.
Hong Kong police have appealed for help in the search for a teenage girl missing since Sunday.
Chin Yu-ying, 17, was last seen on Sunday afternoon when she left her home on Babington Path in the Mid-Levels.
Her family reported her disappearance to police on Monday after she failed to return home during the night.
According to officers, the girl is 1.62 metres tall, weighs 50kg and is of thin build. She has a long face and long black hair.
“She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved grey chequered shirt, dark trousers, black shoes, a white watch and carrying a black canvas bag,” police said in a statement issued on Monday afternoon.
