Hong Kong's FedEx Express/JA International Trade Challenge finalists target sustainable solutions
Enterprising teens from three Hong Kong secondary schools have earned places in the Asia-Pacific Finals of the FedEx Express/JA International Trade Challenge, to be held in Singapore this month.
They were selected out of 10 shortlisted teams in the Hong Kong Finals on July 24, where they presented in front a panel of judges their ideas for sustainable household products designed with the Indian market in mind.
Two of the teams developed water filtration systems to tackle water pollution, while the third team designed a sustainable pedal powered washing machine with an in-built water filter.
“In school, our knowledge only comes from our textbooks, but here we have to be critical and creative,” said Benjamin Chu Man-hoi, 17, from La Salle College.
The Asia-Pacific Finals are being held in Singapore on August 21 to 23, with the Hong Kong teams competing against 54 other teams from nine other countries.
