The rumours are true: cult favourite burger brand Shake Shack is bringing its ShackBurger, crinkle-cut fries, frozen custard ice cream and famous handspun milkshakes to Hong Kong next year! The New York-based brand said yesterday they were partnering with Maxim's to launch a total of 14 Shacks in Hong Kong and Macau over the next 10 years.
“We see tremendous opportunity for Shake Shack in Hong Kong and Macau,” said Randy Garutti, CEO of Shake Shack. “We’re thrilled to bring the joy of Shake Shack to our fans in these dynamic communities as we continue to expand our footprint in Asia.”
“For years, our fans in Hong Kong and Macau have humbled us with their excitement for Shake Shack, and we’re ecstatic to soon be a part of their communities,” said Michael Kark, Vice President of Shake Shack Global Licensing.
Shake Shack started in 2001 selling from a hot dog cart, then opened a permanent kiosk in New York's Madison Square Park in 2004. They now have branches across the US, the Middle East, Russia, and Britain, and the first Asian branch opened in Tokyo in November 2015. (Well, Hong Kong does like to follow in Japan's footsteps. It was going to happen some time.)
Here's hoping the queues won't be too long. The wait is hard enough already!
