The daughter of alleged triad leader Jim Chong-shing may have killed herself, police say. Her body was pulled from the sea around 3pm last Thursday about 100 metres from the Tsuen Wan ferry pier.
Although the police have refused to release the full name of the girl, who was around 16-years-old, local media are reporting that her name was Jim Wing-lam. Her boyfriend, surnamed Lam and who is around 20-years-old, was rescued from the sea off Tsing Yi Promenade around 4am on December 12. He claimed to have fallen in while using his mobile phone.
Lam has now said that he and Ching-shing had talked on December 11 about how unhappy they were with their lives, and that they had decided to commit suicide together.
According to local media, he originally lied to the police about why he had been in the sea because he was worried about being charged with a crime. After his confession yesterday, he was arrested on the suspicion of having aided and abetted in the suicide of another person.
