Christian Alliance Cheng Wing Gee College get down to business and scoop top awards at Junior Achievement Hong Kong event
Their company, Sealon, was praised for their use of recycled materials

Photo: Junior Achievement Hong KongStudents from Christian Alliance Cheng Wing Gee College won two of the top awards at a fair that gave young entrepreneurs the chance to run a real business.
Their company, called Sealon, won the best offering and best booth awards at this year’s A Company Programme on Saturday, organised by Junior Achievement Hong Kong.
The programme taught 1,700 students aged 14 to 18 how to run a business.
The judges liked Christian Alliance Cheng Wing Gee College’s company’s interesting idea – they used recycled materials, such as old paperback book covers, and fabric, to produce handbags.
Over eight months, the teams worked with business advisers and teachers to improve their entrepreneurial skills. That meant everything from choosing the chief executive officer to sales and marketing.
Saturday’s trade fair at Chater Garden in Central offered an opportunity to apply what they had learned in a real business environment. It attracted more than 12,000 visitors, who could buy their products.
Sealon’s marketing team member Chan Chin-lok, 15, told Young Post yesterday that it was harder than he expected because everyone had different ideas about the final products. Misunderstandings were common, and it was hard not to take it personally, he said.
“It was just like a real business as everyone debated how to design, produce and present our products. Our leaders had to negotiate and make the final decision.”
The overall winner will be announced in April.
