Hong Kong's observatory issued the typhoon signal No 1 at 10am this morning, as super typhoon Meranti drew closer. The storm looks to be heading towards Taiwan and is not likely to hit Hong Kong directly.

However, we can expect some bad weather today, tomorrow and over the weekend, which will interfere with Mid-Autumn celebrations and the chance to glimpse a lunar eclipse.

The observatory also raised the "hot weather" warning, with temperatures expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius. The observatory said people going outside today should be sure to have plenty of water, and not be too energetic.
