The smell of roasted chestnuts, the warm glow of fairy lights, the hum of Christmas music - are you picturing it yet?

Christmas is just around the corner, and festive markets are springing up all over the city over the next few weeks. We’ve rounded up 12 of the best (added bonus: they’re all free!), so pull on some festive knitwear, grab a winter-spice-flavoured hot drink and go revel in the festivities.  

White Christmas Street Fair - Star Street Precinct

A weekend of food and live entertainment – yes please! What’s more, all proceeds and donations go to Operation Santa Claus, the annual fundraiser organised by South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong.
When: November 24, noon - 8pm; November 25 - 26, 1pm - 7pm 
Where: Star Street, Wan Chai 
How to get there: Just outside Admiralty MTR Station Exit F

Renaissance College Fair

This annual fair is a major annual fundraising event at Renaissance College and also serves as an end-of-year highlight for both the college and the local Ma On Shan communities. Catch live performaces, an international food court, game stalls and more at this year's fair.
When: December 2, 10:30am - 4:30pm
Where: Renaissance College
How to get there: Heng On Station MTR Station Exit A

West Island School Christmas Market

Get ready for festive foods and last minute Christmas shopping at this event, which will also feature a live music concert aptly named A Perfect Christmas Night.
When: December 5, 4:30 - 6:45pm, concert at 7:00 - 8:30pm
Where: West Island School
How to get there: Kennedy Town MTR, then Green Minibus 58 or 59

St Stephen’s Chapel Christmas Fete

Expect bouncy castles, great food and drink, and even lion dancers in this Christmas fair with a Chinese twist. If you get there by noon, you might even see Santa arrive...in a helicopter!
When: December 3, 11:00am - 4:30pm
Where: St. Stephen’s College Sports Ground, Stanley
How to get there: Take minibus no.40 from Causeway Bay Jardine’s Bazaar and get off at The HK Sea School, then walk for few more minutes
Entrance Fee: $20

American International School PTA Winter Fair 

With food from around the world, incredible student performances and a lucky draw, this is a chance for students to have a well-earned celebration.
When: December 8, 3.30 - 8pm
Where: American International School 
How to get there: The school is a short walk from Kowloon Tong MTR Station

Repulse Bay Christmas Fair

You’re sure to find the perfect personalised gift among the array of unique handicrafts on sale here.
When: November 26, 11am - 6pm
Where: Arcade Area, The Repulse Bay, 109 Repulse Bay Road
How to get there: Take minibus No#40 from Jardine’s Bazaar in Causeway Bay  and get off at Repulse Bay Beach

White Christmas Street Fair @ Taikoo Place

What do you call a group of Santa Clauses? We’re not entirely sure, but if you wait until the last day to visit this fair, you’ll see one. December 2 is when the annual Taikoo Place Santathon takes place, with hundreds dressing up and taking part in the obstacle course.
When: November 30 to December 1, noon - 8pm; December 2, 1pm - 7pm
Where: Taikoo Place, Tong Chong Street, Quarry Bay
How to get there: A five-minute walk from Quarry Bay MTR Station Exit A

Hullett House Christmas Market

For a Christmas market with a real traditional feel, head to the Nordic-themed one at this elegant colonial building on TST’s waterfront.
When: December 1, 5pm - 11pm;  December 2, 1pm - 11pm; December 3, 11am - 9pm 
Where: Hullett House, 1881 Heritage, Tsim Sha Tsui 
How to get there: Right outside Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station Exit L5

Sai Kung Markets

From festive food and crafts to clothing and jewellery, this market sells pretty much everything. It’s sure to meet all your Christmas shopping needs.
When: December 3, 11am - 5pm
Where: Hong Kong Academy, Sai Kung 
How to get there: Take minibus no.1A from Ngau Chi Wan Village next to Choi Hung MTR Station and get off at Sai Kung Pier Public Minibus Terminal, then walk for few more minutes

Stanley Plaza Christmas Market

To help Finland celebrate its 100th birthday, this year’s market is embracing all things Finnish, with traditional gifts and delicacies. Try the pickled herring if you dare.
When: December 9 - 17, noon - 8pm
Venue: Stanley Plaza, Stanley
How to get there: Take minibus No#40 from Jardine’s Bazaar in Causeway Bay, the 16M bus from Chai Wan, or the 6, 6A or 6X from Central. Get off at Ma Hang Estate Chun Ma House Walk

Discovery Bay Sunday Market

If you like your gifts to have a personal touch, this market selling DIY arts and crafts has got you sorted.
When: December 10, 11am - 6pm
Where: Discovery Bay Main Plaza, Discovery Bay
How to get there: Take ferry from Central Ferry Pier 3 to Discovery Bay, then walk to the Plaza

Italian Day at Sandy Bay

Get to know Hong Kong’s Italian community and indulge in the two things Italy does best: food and fashion. Better still, all profits from the bazaar go to the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital.
When: December 2, 10:00am - 5:00pm
Where: The Gardens of the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital at Sandy Bay, Pok Fu Lam
How to get there: Take minibus no.58 from Rock Hill Street next to Kennedy Town MTR Station and get off at T.W.G.Hs. Jockey Club Care and Attention Home for the Elderly. The market is just a short walk from there
