When students misbehave, many school teachers in the mainland use a similar way to punish their students - to make them write certain characters, words or sentences repeatedly.
But one teacher at a college in Sichuan has taken it to the next level.
The above character is seen as the most complicated in Chinese. Wang Sijun, who teaches at Chengdu College of University of Electronic Science and Technology makes the students who are late for classes to write it for a thousand times, Chinese media reported.
Pronounced as "biang", the character has 56 strokes. It's only used to refer to a tranditional and well-known Shaanxi noodle and it's not even included in Chinese input software.
Wang was inspired during his trip to Shaanxi earlier this month and has decided to use it to discipline his students.
The new punishment went viral on the Internet. The first two students to get this punishments have failed to complete the task. A female student gave up after around 200 times and promised never to be late again. A male student offer to draw a hundred Terracotta Warriors instead, which are also what Shaanxi is known for.
