Which compliment do you most want to receive?

Which compliment do you most want to receive?

Tomorrow is National Compliment Day in the United States, so we asked our readers to tell us which compliment they most want to receive. Here are the best answers ...

1. Let your hair down

I would love it if someone complimented my hair for once! Even though I've been trying really hard to keep it neat and respectable, it's been pretty much impossible to tame. I've been told on various occasions that I look like "a black cloud", "a walking mop", and even "the witch from Into the Woods". A few kind words about my hair would instantly transform my bad hair day into a good one.

Catherine Wang, 15, Chinese International School

2. It's pretty easy

I'm very easily satisfied. Just a "you're pretty" from a random hot stranger would do, thanks.

Christy Cheung, 15, St Paul's Co-educational College

3. Keep it simple

All I want to hear is just a simple "good job!" It'll be really great if someone can acknowledge my good work, and it's such an easy thing to say.

Phydias Leung, 14, Law Ting Pong Secondary School

4. Learning the lingo

Ever since I was a kid, I've always tried to practise speaking Cantonese in public. People generally praise my Cantonese, considering I'm a foreigner. But one day, I'd like to hear someone say: "Your Cantonese is so fluent, you must be a local!" Such a compliment would be a dream come true because I've always wanted to speak Cantonese as well as everyone around me.

Joy Pamnani, 16, PLK Ngan Po Ling College

5. Confidence is key

"You look so confident!" I always struggle to look confident; it keeps me from doing what I want and I am not proud of that. It feels like opportunities just pass by and I don't jump on them because I'm too shy.

Tacye Hong, 17, University of Toronto

6. From my BFFs

"Even though you are always late, often forgetful and sometimes a little crazy, you are the most awesome friend I've ever had!" I love hanging out with my best friends. Whenever we are together, we smile, we laugh, we chat, and we're our true selves. Though my friends are sometimes a bit crazy and annoying, I like who they are, and I hope they like who I am as well.

Jenny Wong, 15, School of the Nations (Macau)

7. Standing tall

I like it when people tell me that I'm tall. Tall people have so many advantages, like being able to hold the handrail on the MTR more easily, breathing fresher air, and also being more noticeable. My ideal height is 170cm, so I have just 2cm to go!

Regina Cheng, 15, Cheung Chuk Shan College

8. Wise words

In my opinion, the best compliment to hear would be packed with puns and full of wit. It would be nice, and would also serve as a double compliment, because it would suggest that I'd be able to understand the double meaning and humour behind it.

Cynthia Huang, 15, Chinese International School

9. Keep calm and carry on

I really want people to see me as a calm person, and let me know that I'm serene. I may be impulsive at times, and I have to confess that my reckless personality can be threatening to others, but I try my very best to slow down and think twice before I do anything. Please call me serene!

Serene Ho, 14, Immaculate Heart of Mary College

10. Already awesome

I don't need a compliment from other people. I already know I'm awesome, so thanks, but save the compliment for other people.

Annette Kim, 16, Chinese International School
