The best of the 2013-14 season on Broadway was celebrated on Sunday with the Tony Awards for plays and musicals. YP readers weigh in on who won - and who they thought should have
1. Starring role
I think Neil Patrick Harris deserved to win for his portrayal of Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He is no stranger to Broadway theatre. He is also a very talented TV and film actor.

I think Chris O'Dowd should have won for Leading Actor in a Play because of the difficulty it takes to play a role like Lennie in Of Mice and Men. O'Dowd balances Lennie's innocence and destructive quality flawlessly.

Hands down, Neil Patrick Harris deserved to win for his hair-raising portrayal of Hedwig, a transgender woman, in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. With sky-high stilettos and an outfit made for a glam diva, Harris channels his inner rock star with charisma.

4. Dazzling show
I think If/Then's musical score and Idina Menzel (Best Performance of a Leading Actress in a Musical) should have won their categories. I saw the show on Broadway earlier this month, and the whole musical was enchanting. Menzel is simply a supernova!

5. My nominee
A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder deserved to win Best Musical. It has a very strong plot, good humour and brilliant actors. This production is the most original and audience-friendly nomination.

6. Grand opening
Can we focus on this year's Tony emcee? Hugh Jackman replaced Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted the Tonys three years in a row. Harris' opening numbers are the best. I'd love to see another grand opening by him.

I wanted Sutton Foster to win for Leading Actress in a Musical in Violet. You know, she's really funny and original, and she doesn't try to be anyone other than herself - unless she's acting, of course.

Yay for Neil Patrick Harris! He did an awesome job in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, in which he cross-dressed for his role. He totally deserved the Best Actor in a Musical, or Best Actress, you know what I mean ...

9. Eye-catching
A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder deserved to win Best Musical. It was clean and crisp, and the cast was spectacular, especially Jefferson Mays. Put simply, the musical was beautiful on the eyes.

Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother - oh, wait, I mean Neil Patrick Harris - finally made a return to Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch! And of course he deserved his award for his fabulous breakthrough performance as Hedwig, a transgender rock singer.
