Ocean Park has 13 new unique experiences.Halloween is just around the corner, and Hong Kong’s two biggest theme parks – Ocean Park and Disneyland – are doing all they can to give visitors a bone-chilling experience. Young Post junior reporters Belle Ho, Dennis Chow, and Eugenia Fong went to check out some of the attractions, just in time for scary season!
Ocean Park’s Halloween Bash
The marine mammal park is best known for its thrilling roller coasters and interactive animal shows and exhibits, but you’ll hardly recognise the place when Halloween time comes. For years, Ocean Park has held their annual Halloween Fest where staff in costume roam around the park to spook visitors.
What most people come for are the haunted houses, which are said to feature some of the best state-of-the-art terror design and technology.

The 2018 event features 13 new unique experiences, including Hong Kong’s first VR haunted attraction. X-Dimension creates a terrifying alternate dimension using 360-degree interactive projections and 3D mapping technology. This was the new attraction that impressed us the most. We don’t want to give too much away, but we will warn you to watch out for things coming for your legs. The digitally-created realm was scarily realistic and definitely kept us shaking and on our toes.
The park’s Mine Train has been revamped with an added Halloween-themed VR experience, where you can shoot down zombies with VR headsets.
Ocean Park really go all out with their Halloween attraction and every year they seem to outdo themselves. We think it’s certainly worth a visit.
Halloween Time at Disneyland
As well as a costume change for Mickey Mouse and friends to a more autumnal design, Disneyland will be spookifying their park to the theme of the film The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The first thing we saw upon entering the park was a huge statue of the film’s main character Jack Skellington leering at visitors from above. It was a fitting welcome to get us in the mood for what lay ahead of us.
Halloween means pumpkin season - but why do we make them into jack-o'-lanterns?
We made a beeline for the new walk-through experience, Journey to Halloween Town. There you can meet and interact with Jack, Sally, and his other friends, while well-known and well-loved scenes and music from the film play around you.
At sundown, we caught the nighttime parade, the third chapter of Villain’s Night Out, where the most evil Disney baddies, lead by Malificent, will snake along Main Street USA.
The parade was wickedly entertaining. If you happened catch it when we were live-streaming on Instagram, you would’ve seen Mickey and the gang waving at onlookers and dancing to the catchy music. We definitely recommend you spend a day at Disneyland this October.
Both Halloween events are open until October 31.
