When you think of The Incredibles, three words come to mind: athletic, edgy and strong.
So, to celebrate the upcoming release of Incredibles 2, we’re kicking off our Get The Look series with an strong athleisure look. Our model, Angelica Sanchez, is dressed in sleek, fitted leggings and a bold coloured top in shades inspired by the Incredibles franchise. The outfit is complete with a vibrant sports jumper tied around her waist, and sports shoes that are also in shades inspired by the costume design of the Incredibles.
The athleisure fashion trend has been quickly gaining momentum, and now, it’s perfectly acceptable to go to a party or a dinner wearing workout clothes. But while this movement is all about dressing down, rather than dressing up, there are a few tricks to take your look to the next level.
Hair is key
Strong, structured braids complement any sports-inspired look, and have the ability to transform an entire outfit.
We styled Angelica’s hair into two Dutch braids that came down to the nape of her neck, before combining them to create a single, thick plait to finish.
Begin by parting your hair in the centre, and brush it out to untangle any knots. Loosely clip one side of your hair so it isn’t in your way. Start braiding the other section of hair until it reaches the nape of your neck. Then, secure it tightly with an elastic hair tie. If you do not know how to create a Dutch braid, there are many tutorials on YouTube that will guide you. A French braid will work just as well, too!
Repeat the same braid with the other half of your hair. It can seem tricky at first, but with practice, you will be able to master the look in no time! Once you’ve finished the Dutch braids, complete the look by creating one single plait, until you run out of hair.
Gently tease out the hair on the edges of the braids to create fuller, thicker braids that will stand out from your face.
You can also wrap a small section of your hair around the hair ties, for a more sophisticated finish. Remember to secure it with a bobby pin.
To mimic that dewy, healthy post-workout glow, mix a small amount of liquid highlighter with your BB cream, or foundation, and apply it evenly all over your face. Don’t forget to blend a little down the neck. For an extra punch, dab some extra highlighter on your cheekbones and brow bones. Ta da! Instant glow.
For the eyes, we kept things simple with a peach-coloured eye shadow, finishing with a thin, grey eyeliner to enhance Angelica’s eyes. A light pink lipstick adds a subtle touch of colour to complete the natural look. If you want to upgrade your look, accessorise with a pair of sunglasses or a backpack.
