Lunar New Year is a time to gather with loved ones, enjoy great food and receive blessings for the New Year. And with the few extra days off, there’s no better time to relax with some video games that star the Chinese zodiac animal of the year. Here’s a list of the best video game pigs that are lovable, lethal or both.
The main baddie in The Legend of Zelda series, Ganon is a powerful warrior that seeks to rule the world of Hyrule by gathering the all-powerful Triforce artefact. Ganon transforms into his demonic boar form to try to defeat our hero Link on multiple occasions, but it hasn’t worked out very well for him so far.
Bad piggies: Angry Birds
The cute antagonists in the Angry Birds series of freemium mobile games are rather passive when working towards their goal of staying alive. Hiding out under easily breakable planks of wood, or using cooking pots as makeshift helmets are the extents of their defensive measures. But at least they got a movie deal out of it.
Pey’j: Beyond Good and Evil
An anthropomorphic pig that is main character Jade’s adoptive uncle in Beyond Good and Evil, Pey’j loves eating and is an accomplished mechanic. Underneath his gruff exterior is a kind and protective soul, and as players find out throughout the course of the game, he has some secrets of his own.
Reuben: Minecraft Story Mode
Reuben is the pet pig of Jesse, the main playable character in Minecraft Story Mode. Though he can’t speak, it’s clear that Jess and Reuben are the best of friends. He helps the player train for upcoming quests and is a staunch (and adorable) ally.
Bormin: Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden
A brawny mutant boar that packs a punch, Bormin can destroy enemy cover by charging headfirst into the fray. On a mission to rescue engineer Hammon from the Nova Sect cult, he’ll need to work together with his fellow operative to survive in the post-apocalyptic world of Mutant Year Zero.
