Thanks to all the superhero movies Marvel and DC Comics have lined up, comic books have never been more popular or cool. These days, there are plenty of apps out there for all kinds of comic book lovers

Every self-respecting comic book fan will have the Comics app already, but here's the low-down in case you're late to the party. The reader gives you instant access to more than 75,000 digital comics, graphic novels and manga. The digital comics are released on the same day as print editions and high-definition files make sure none of the action is lost.

Create comic book images featuring your family and friends. First, select from one of the many page templates, then insert your own photos into the cells, and add plenty of sound-effect speech bubbles to spice things up. The best thing about this app is the freedom it gives you to create truly unique picture stories. You know all the storylines by heart, you have the merchandise, and you obsess over every plot twist. Surely you're the ultimate comic book nerd, right? This app is for those who live, breathe and dream cartoons - and shout "Kablammo!" when closing the fridge.

Web comics have really evolved in the past few years, and it now takes a smart and useful app like Comic Chameleon just to keep track of them all. You can get manga via the Comics app, but if you don't want all the American comics, download the awesome Manga Rock.
