Lots of fans feeling directionless at the news of a possible split

[Update - 10.53am, August 25]

Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan denied that they are spliting up and quickly reassured 1D's passionate fanbase.

Fans around the world are screaming, "It's not true!", but One Direction are rumoured to be taking a break in March to work on solo projects, according to a source for British newspaper The Sun.

That's right, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan are reported to be going their separate ways.

The phrase that is being tossed around is that they are "taking a hiatus", which means a pause or break. So even the rumour isn't claiming that it's a permanent split. Aaaand breathe. A 1D source told The Sun: “The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boy band. They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision. It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future.”

Lots of fans will be wondering whether Zayn Malik's departure from the band in March has anything to do with the band's split, but the source was quick to add that Zayn's shock departure was not a factor in the split and it would have happened with or without him.

Fans have reacted in extremes, as is always the case when it comes to anything 1D, with one fan tweeting, "I now hate the month of March #OneDirection" and another commenting, "Feeling directionless  #OneDirection".

Most celebrities have yet to react to the news, including the boys themselves, but rapper Professor Green tweeted:

A spokesman for the band said: “We don’t comment on speculation.”
