We have a series of exciting album releases to look forward to in the coming weeks. Here are the highlights, so make sure you check them out.
Ghost Stories by Coldplay
The latest addition to Coldplay's portfolio of chart-topping alternative rock albums is due to be released on May 16. The album will be a return to more acoustic music as opposed to the largely pop-orientated collection in their previous album, Mylo Xyloto. With the lead single, Magic (released on March 3), reaching the top 10 in 18 countries, one can expect this album to be another commercial success.
Sheezus by Lily Allen
Back from her five-year hiatus, Allen is releasing her third studio album on May 5. The name Sheezus pays homage to rapper Kanye West's most recent album, Yeezus, while the content is dedicated to the late RB artist, Amy Winehouse.
Allen's new album is as much of a social commentary as her previous one. The lead single, Hard out Here, was described by Rolling Stone as a "feminist anthem through and through", focusing on the objectification of women in the music industry and society in general.
New Eyes by Clean Bandit
The electropop group behind the British chart-topping song Rather Be will release an album on June 2. The band's songs are described as "fusion" music, a mix of electronic, house and classical elements. The self-proclaimed "cleverest and most stupid band in pop" produce their music independently while inviting guest artists to provide the vocals for their songs, giving Calvin Harris some serious competition.
I Never Learn by Lykke Li
Li is likely to impress the most with this album. The acoustics and stunning vocals are reminiscent of late-'70s pop. In fact, one could easily confuse Li's tracks with those of legendary Swedish pop group Abba.
She joins the small echelon of feminist pop artists such as P!nk and Lily Allen with songs such as Get Some, protesting against the expectations of women in pop culture. Although The Guardian says it sounds "completely different" to her previous work, the theme of broken love remains, hence the title. The album is set to be released on Friday.
Everyday Robots by Damon Albarn
This debut solo album by Albarn, frontman of the British alternative rock band Blur, is set to be released tomorrow. He says this album will be the "most personal record" he has ever made, with the theme of nature and technology appearing in every song. The album tells stories from his own life.
