Zedd made use of awesome lighting and special effects during the show.

Zedd, the hitmaker DJ behind your favourite jams like Clarity and Stay rocked the stage last Saturday on the Hong Kong stop of his Echo Tour 2018. He performed a thumping mixture of proven hits and new remixes, and even brought his friends: the EDM sibling duo Grey!

Grey was the opening act and they performed a bunch of awesome songs. They started off with Chameleon, their 2015 debut single. With a catchy dubstep beat and relatable lyrics like “It's like I saw you change your colours, thought I knew you, but you're so chameleon,” they reeled everyone in.

They also showed some flair with unconventional remixes, for example putting Bruno Mars’ That’s What I Like over an instrumental of Britney Spears’ Toxic, as well as a fiery remix of Humble by Kendrick Lamar! Finally, they also played their 2016 hit Starving featuring Hailee Steinfeld’s stellar vocals. Everyone sang and jumped along in the crowd, and we were thoroughly excited in anticipation of Zedd’s arrival.

Then Zedd came on stage, giving us with what we were all waiting for - his energetic epic hits. We loved that he didn’t just play his recent songs to promote his album, but also played our old favourites. He started off with Stay the Night, his 2013 hit with Hayley Williams of the band Paramore. He also played his recent duet with Selena Gomez off his True Colors album, I Want You to Know. Stay, featuring the talented Alessia Cara was also a crowd favorite, with its catchy humming bassline.

He then did a rendition of his song Break Free featuring Ariana Grande, which was empowering, telling everyone to break free and be stronger! Finally, his 2013 Grammy award-winning single Clarity had everyone singing and bouncing along.

But Zedd didn’t just make the whole night about him. He paid respect to the musical greats of the past, playing a EDM remix of Queen classic Bohemian Rhapsody as well Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, hitting everyone with nostalgia and throwback feels.

Zedd even sprinkled in a couple memes! In the middle of the concert he played an electronic interlude while the Snapchat hot dog filter danced and did somersaults in the background. He also played a remix of the Legend of Zelda theme, with the classic 8-bit character prancing around the giant LED screens.

In between every chart-topper, Zedd made sure to throw in his more underrated and less known work. For example, his remix of Magic!’s Rude was an absolute bop! He played some fire renditions of J Balvin’s Mi Gente, Justin Bieber and DJ Snake’s Cold Water, and Camila Cabello’s Havana, along with many more!

“Hong Kong, thank you so much!” Zedd yelled at the end of the night. He created a truly electric aura with his performance, and every person left the concert hall ama-Zedd!
