Taylor Swift premiered the music video for her latest single, Delicate, at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles last night (or, this morning in Hong Kong), where the singer also won the award for Female Artist of the Year.
The video sees Swift leap, frolic and twirl her way through Los Angeles as she escapes a flashy red carpet event to instead seek out a low-lit dive-bar, where her crush is waiting for her.
While the song is believed to be about the start of a relationship, this vulnerable and intimate pop track’s video aesthetic seems to be more of a reflection on the downside of fame.
It opens with Swift being interviewed on a red carpet, surrounded by paparazzi and an army of fans. She discovers a magical note, which suddenly makes her invisible and gives her the freedom to roam unnoticed inside an opulent hotel, a futuristic subway, and the rainy side alleys of L.A.
Finally, she wanders into a dive bar in downtown Los Angeles, where a drenched Swift is greeted by gazes from the public; she’s visible again.
The video is another collaboration with Joseph Kahn, who teamed up with her for Bad Blood, Wildest Dreams, Blank Space, and Out of the Woods from 1989.
In May, Swift will launch a world tour in support of the album with opening acts Camila Cabello and Charli XCX.
