Jeff Rosenstock’s latest album delivers an array of fresh, and confident songs [Review]
Jeff Rosenstock has a promising solo career in music. And with the release of his third album, he establishes himself as a forward and solid performer
American singer-songwriter Jeff Rosenstock has carved out a promising solo career, releasing three albums in the past three years. His latest, POST-, delivers a series of bold, confident songs despite the sense of hopelessness in his lyrics.
USA is a daring start to the record, with a whirlwind of string-bending guitar riffs, before shifting into a ferocious punk-rock ending.
The gnarly guitars and grief-stricken vocals is even more present in Melba and Beating My Head Against The Wall, which are both driven driving punk drums.
Powerlessness channels more of a country ska-punk vibe, as if Blink 182 had only acoustic guitars at their disposal. Yr Throat is equally rampant, with a galloping beat, and frantic, angsty vocals: “What’s the point of having a voice when it gets stuck inside your throat?”
All This Useless Energy has the best chorus as Rosenstock pushes his vocals to falsetto. The closing track Let Them Win tries to compete with USA, but doesn’t have quite as much energy or interest.
Still, POST- is overflowing with great ideas, and is a must-listen to any pop-punk or emo fans.
