Remember when we told you that Netflix was set to produce a string of animated versions of Roald Dahl books? Well, the streaming site is reportedly set to annouce the release of a film adaptation of Matilda, the beloved children's book by author, Roald Dahl.

According to US entertainment magazine The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures and Netflix are partnering for the adaptation, which will be based on the popular stage musical inspired by the book.

It will run exclusively on Netflix in Britain first, before becoming available to stream on Netflix platforms around the world, according to sources "with knowlege of the deal".

Details of the release are still being worked out, and it is not known when the film will be released.

The novel was adapted into a film in 1996, starring Mara Wilson as Matilda, and Danny DeVito as her father, Mr Wormwood.

Matilda the Musical made its debut in 2010 in a theatre in Britain, before receiving its West End premiere in 2011. It also made its way to Broadway in 2013.

The stage adaptation was meant to run in Hong Kong from September to October 2019. However, due to the anti-government protests in the city, it was called off.
