Disney’s ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ is a worthy sequel that’s a fun return for stars Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope [Movie Review]
John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman reprise their roles in this heartwarming tale of friendship and discovery
Following 2012’s widely successful Wreck it-Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet once again puts Ralph and Vanellope’s friendship to the test in a hilarious and endearing adventure that’s sure to delight.
Six years after the events of the first film, Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) are still the best of friends and regularly hang out in Vanellope’s game Sugar Rush. When the game cabinet is accidentally damaged during Vanellope’s zeal to try out a brand new track in the middle of another race, the dynamic duo must break into the unexplored Internet world to find a replacement for a missing part.
Incorporating familiar Disney faces, popular social media trends, and cool original characters, Ralph Breaks the Internet has a rich and fruitful plot. Despite a few predictable moments, the overarching story is full of surprising twists and will have you on the edge of your seat.
The production team has done a marvellous job in visualising online activities and have really brought the Internet world to life, by personifying inanimate internet tools such as the search engine and pop-up notification. The creative and picturesque representation effectively turns the familiar cyberspace we visit every day into an interesting, and exotic wonderland.
The sequel also explores some heavier issues, such as the potential destructive power of feeling insecure in any type of relationship. It’s also a lovely reminder that behind seemingly hostile behaviour from our closest friends, there may be a well-intentioned motive that explains why they hurt you.
In addition, the animated feature showcases both the good and dark sides of the World Wide Web, pokes fun at our beloved Disney heroines and celebrates the power of strong female role models.
Fun, captivating, and absolutely delightful, Ralph Breaks the Internet takes a light-hearted look at the ambivalence of human nature and shows us what it takes to build a strong friendship, just like the one between the soft-hearted Ralph and the lionhearted Vanellope. Catch the complementary pair in cinemas today, you won’t be disappointed.
