These companies have worked out more effective ways of getting people to pay close attention to those pre-flight screenings
The 'Lego Movie' characters travel all over the world in the video.When The Lego Movie came out in 2014, Turkish Airlines worked with the film company to produce a safety video featuring the animated stars. And with the release of the Lego Movie sequel, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, earlier this month, the Turkish carrier also filmed a second airline safety video, released this week, presented by Emmet, Wyldstyle, Batman, and more of the square-headed characters.
But Turkish isn’t the only airline to have brainstormed more effective ways to make people pay attention to those all-important videos.
In 2013, Virgin America enlisted the help of Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu, and Youtube phenomenon Todrick Hall to put together this MTV-Award-Worthy presentation.
British Airways, meanwhile, called on some of Britain’s finest actors to help them explain safety procedures to its passengers.
In 2009, UK airline Thomson went for the cute factor, bringing four- and five-year-olds on board (literally) to explain how to fasten seatbelts and use the life jackets.
But perhaps the most successful airline to use comedy to drive home their important points is Air New Zealand. It has a long history of hilarious, pop-culture-filled videos, from a Lord of the Rings- themed one (featuring its star, Elijah Wood, and director Peter Jackson), to the time the NZ rugby team, the All Blacks, spoofed the Men in Black movies.
What all these videos have in common is a pride in their heritage and people, which they celebrate, whole-heartedly, in every edition, including this latest release.
