Should teachers monitor students’ personal devices at school?

You have probably heard these news terms being discussed in the papers or on TV. This is how to use them in English:

1. 人踩人 - stampede

Football superstar David Beckham has sent his love to people hurt in a stampede at a Shanghai event, as fans praised him despite the incident.

2. 搭棚 - scaffolding

Clinging to broken scaffolding suspended 44 storeys above midtown, 26-year-old maintenance man Victor Caraballo feared becoming a "crash dummy".

3. 冒簽 - forgery

Keith Ho, a lawyer for Chinachem Charitable Foundation controlled by Nina Wang's siblings, said the allegations of forgery were only coming to light now because it had taken time to gather evidence.

4. 恐嚇 - menace

In mid-May, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon told the U.N. Security Council that armed groups in Central Africa are employing increasingly sophisticated weapons to kill African elephants. "Poaching and its potential linkages to other criminal, even terrorist, activities," Ban said, "constitute a grave menace to sustainable peace and security in central Africa."

5. 預測 - forecast

The latest forecast of Department for Transport and Housing shows that there should be 44,700 new homes on the market every year.
