If you're going to steal, steal from the best. That's exactly what new anime Kakumeiki Valvrave (Valvrave the Liberator) does. The show follows almost the exact same storyline as the original 1979 Gundam show, with a dash of Macross and Neon Genesis Evangelion for some extra spice.

The story is set in the future, in the 71st year of the "True Era", when three quarters of humanity has migrated to other planets. The world is split fairly evenly between two superpowers: the Dorrsia Military Pact Federation, and the Atlantic Ring United States which are at war. A third faction, Jior, has remained neutral and prospered.

Jior's peace is shattered when Dorrsia invades to steal newly developed mechas. High-school student Haruto Tokishima is thrust into the role of hero and saviour of Jior when he finds himself in the cockpit of a powerful humanoid mecha called Valvrave. Facing death and filled with a burning desire for revenge, Haruto gives up his humanity to Valvrave.

Kakumeiki Valvrave was produced by Sunrise, Japan's most famous studio, directed by Ko Matsuo, written by Ichiro Okouchi, and features original character designs by Katsura Hoshino.

Will Haruto save Jior from Dorssia? What are the consequences of his bio modifications? Tune in to find out.
