Ahoy mateys! The world of Japanese manga artist Eiichiro Oda comes to life in the new video game from Koei, aptly titled One Piece: Pirate Warriors, after Oda's biggest-selling manga.

One Piece is a multi-award-winning series about pirates - there are currently 683 chapters of the manga, and more than 560 anime episodes.

It follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man with the superpower, gained by eating a rare, magical fruit, to stretch his body. He seeks to become King of the Pirates, so needs needs a crew and ship to find a legendary pirate treasure.

The game is based on the popular video game series Dynasty Warriors, where players take control of a character on a battlefield and must beat waves of enemy fighters. Controls are simple: square and triangle are your basic attack buttons, with circle as your special attack, while the X button allows you to quickly dash to and fro.

The cel-shaded graphics make the game look hand-drawn, and it features the voices of the Japanese actors used in the anime.

New platforming and puzzle-solving elements that bring to life Luffy's stretching abilities offer a freshness and dynamism that save it from the stereotypical hack-and-slash appearance synonymous with the Warrior series.

Overall this is great fun, and a highly recommended game for lovers of the manga or anime versions. If you haven't already snapped it up, hurry to the shops before all copies get Shanghaied!
