Big news, my fellow otaku. Mega virtual J-pop idol, Miku Hatsune, will be coming to Hong Kong for a special live concert.

The Hatsune Miku Hong Kong & Taiwan First Concert "MIKUPA" will take place in Hong Kong on October 2.

Miku, a singing synthesizer application, is the creation of Crypton Future Media, and uses Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid 2 synthesizing technology. Miku's voice is based on samplings by voice actress Saki Fujita, whose latest anime work includes playing Tomoko in Sora no Otoshimono and Mahiru Inami in Working!!

Miku's anime character is designed by manga artist Kei Garo.

Mikupa is a showcase of the best songs created by talented netizens using Vocaloid. For the live concerts, Miku and other virtual idols are visualised on stage using high-quality projection technology. As in a real concert, Miku performs and interacts with a live band.

The October 2 concerts are at Star Hall, Kitec, at 3pm and 8pm. Tickets - HK$280-HK$680 - go on sale at 10am on July 12 at HK Ticketing.

There's also a early-bird special offer: concert-goers buying tickets on or before July 31 will get a free gift (an A4-size folder), redeemable at the venue on the day.

So mark your calendar, otaku - and I will see you there.
