Giant mecha battle it out in a Venetian sci-fi fantasy world created by the legendary Shoji Kawamori (creator of Optimus Prime) in the new anime series Aquarion Evol, a sequel to the 2005 hit Aquarion.

Aside from being the show's creator and mech designer, Kawamori is also the chief director.

The series is set in a fantasy world where a 12,000-year-old battle has become a myth; it tells of an epic war between soul-sucking aliens, and an earth-bound angel and his young maiden.

Twelve millennia later, things have not improved. The aliens are back and abducting people again. Protecting the population are mecha, robots that are separated into male and female teams because it is taboo to mix the genders.

Amata and Mikono, a budding new couple, get swept up in the middle of a battle when the Aquarion mech takes them on as pilots.

Much to their surprise, they manage to activate the mech and transform it into Aquarion Evol, a new mech form with which to defeat the aliens.

If you are a fan of giant mecha or fantasy anime, then Aquarion Evol is a must-see.

For those who are hesitant to jump into this anime because it is a sequel, don't fret. You don't need to know anything about the original series to get into Aquarion Evol.
