"Aspire to inspire before you expire." It basically means aim to be a good role model for others before you die. I have tried to live by the quote since I heard it because it pushes me to try to inspire others to improve themselves as a whole. It also drives me to keep doing better and to working harder, both academically and non-academically. I'm not the best runner, nor am I at the top of my class. But that is my goal, and it would be nice for others to set high goals, too.

"Assumptions are dangerous things to make, and like all dangerous things to make - bombs, for instance, or strawberry shortcake - if you make even the tiniest mistake, you can find yourself in terrible trouble." Daniel Handler (or Lemony Snicket) wrote this, and to me, this rings so true. You could assume the sun will always be there, and your love will stay with you no matter what, but someday you might wake up and find that your darling has gone to some faraway place because the sun had exploded. You can't be absolutely certain of anything, really.

Bertrand Russell said: "Time you enjoyed wasting is not wasted time." For me, this is THE quote to remember whenever I feel guilty about procrastinating and killing time by chatting with friends or posting a cover on YouTube instead of studying. I know that my time should be spent "in the most fruitful way", i.e. on academics, but sometimes that means balancing your life, enjoying it by doing other things, and exploring who you are. Ironically, I think I saw the quote in some mall when I was strolling around.

"To make the world a better place". It's my life goal. I take the actions of the unscrupulous businessmen who caused the recent global financial crises as something to avoid copying. Their main goal is to increase their personal wealth regardless of the harm done to society.

Instead I believe that, while making money, we should contribute to society, like Bill Gates. He invented an operating system which improved our quality of life, and also donates money to the needy. That's making the world a better place.

"Stay hungry. Stay foolish", as the recently deceased Steve Jobs said in his inspiring 2005 speech at Stanford University. What you take from these words is up to you. To me, it is the ultimate reminder that you can never become self-satisfied, or be too arrogant and confident. If you think you're smart and have a high opinion of yourself, there is no way you can improve and become an important person- you'll be trapped at the same level forever. Do not let Jobs' death be in vain. Remember to stay hungry. Stay foolish.
