Green Lantern (TV series)

Green Lantern (TV series)

For Green Lantern fans who were disappointed by this summer's live action movie starring Ryan Reynolds, take heart: a new 3D animated television show has begun airing on the Cartoon Network in the US and it looks pretty good.

The story begins by focusing on fan-favourite Hal Jordan during his test pilot days for Ferris Aircraft. The series opened with a one-hour premiere that saw Green Lanterns patrolling the outer reaches of the universe being hunted down and killed by Red Lanterns. Upon learning of the death of a frontier Lantern, Hal and fellow Green Lantern Corps member Kilowog travel to the far reaches of space to investigate the death.

The art style of the 3D characters is in step with previous DC Universe 2D animated movies and shows, where the heroes have incredibly broad shoulders, and square faces with exceptionally solid jaws. Voicing Hal Jordan is Josh Keaton, who was the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 2008 animated television series The Spectacular Spider-Man.

The premiere showed a lot of promise and was light years better than the live action movie. Not that that was difficult. Hopefully the Green Lantern animated series will light up Hong Kong television sets soon.

I sign off this week with The Green Lantern's oath: "In brightest day, in darkest night, No evil shall escape my sight, Let those who worship evil's might, Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!"
